Getting Ready

lighting considerations

  • If you are getting married inside a building or church, be aware that there might not be enough light.  When possible choose a location with large windows and/or a good amount of artificial light.

  • Let us know if your ceremony location doesn't have a lot of natural light, talk to us beforehand and we can come prepared with more artificial light options (off-camera flash or lighting panels)

  • Lower ceilings allow us to bounce our flash off the ceiling and light the subject without washing out with a direct shot of light.

  • We'll do our best to avoid being very far away from subjects.  The further away we are, the less effective the flash is.

  • If there are venue rules (example: no flash photography) we need to follow, please bring that information to your consultation call.

  • If you are getting married outside, we recommend starting the ceremony within the golden-hour timeframe (2 hours before sunset).  This will reduce the possibility of harsh shadows and blown-out skies, especially if you are out in an open field or on an uncovered terrace.  You can also choose a spot in even shade (at the time of your ceremony), like a covered pavilion or to the side of a building or a large grove of dense, tall trees.
