lighting considerations

It's important to be aware that a lot of light or not enough light has a huge impact on photos.

  • A first touch is a great option for an intimate moment before the ceremony without the groom seeing the bride.

  • We love first looks with different groups - bridesmaids, grooms, dads.

  • A lot of light will cause squinting, harsh shadows, and blown-out skies.  If it's 2 pm in an open field on a July afternoon with no cloud cover, there is a lot of light. Work with your photographer to choose a location for your first look that has enough light but not too much.  Even shade outside or indoors next to a large window.

  • The two photos below were taken very close to each other, just a difference in finding even shade for the one on the right.

Uneven Shade

Even Shade

First looks can happen indoors or outdoors.  Discuss with your photographer what would be best.  And just remember to find some shade if you choose to do it outside and some good windows if you choose to do it inside.
