lighting considerations

We love capturing the joy and energy of your reception! Whenever possible, we’ll photograph the reception décor earlier in the day when there’s still natural light and everything is fresh and untouched. Once the party starts, we typically document moments as they happen rather than posing you for photos. We’ll use our artificial lighting when needed, but it’s helpful to know what the lighting conditions will be at your venue so we can plan accordingly.

Keep in mind that DJ or dance floor lights can affect how photos look — colorful or flashing lights may cast strong tones on skin and clothing. Large group photos are best taken before the lights are dimmed for dancing (ideally outside during golden hour). Once the room gets darker, photos may naturally appear grainier due to low light. And of course, we love to capture exits too!

key take-aways

We are excited to capture your special day with the people who mean the most to you.  We respect your wishes about when and where you want to take your photos.  We simply want you to be happy with them in the end.

The right amount of light has the biggest effect on the quality and beauty of your photos.

  • Indoors: look for large windows or use artificial light

  • Outdoors: take photos during golden hour or find even shade

  • Consider taking important photos in more than one location
